Donations towards Cyclone Idai victims continue to pour in with Redemptorist Communications (RedCom) donating RTGS7 700.00 towards the reconstruction of St. Charles Luwanga Secondary School in Chimanimani that was severely affected by the disaster. The money was handed over to Fr. Talent Muhomba who represented the Bishop of Mutare, Rt. Rev. Paul Horan at a handover ceremony that took place at the Redemptorist bookshop in Harare on Monday, 17 June 2019.
Receiving the donation, Fr. Muhomba thanked RedCom for the kind gesture that shows solidarity of the Church in taking care of those who need support.
“As Mutare Diocese, we appreciate the gesture by RedCom of RTGS7 700.00 towards reconstruction of St. Charles Luwanga. The gesture is a sign of solidarity with the victims of Cyclone Idai especially St. Charles Luwanga school that was damaged by the tropical cyclone. The diocese is in the process of rebuilding the school and the money will go a long way in supporting the project. We thank RedCom for coming up with this donation and for remembering those students whose education was disturbed due to the unfortunate incident that rocked the school.”
According to RedCom Coordinator, Mrs. Dorothy Zakeyo, an additional RTGS1 830.00 would be send directly to Mutare Diocese for the same project as soon as it was received from Ecocash.
Other donated goods include blankets, clothes, shoes and jerseys which will be distributed through Caritas Mutare to victims of the cyclone in Chimanimani and other areas. In April, RedCom delivered some roles of black plastic sheeting and some groceries to the Presbytarian Church for urgent distribution to the victims of the disaster.
